About Us

The South Bristol Fisherman’s Co-op, perched at the tip of the South Bristol Peninsula, has been the beating heart of this small Maine fishing village since the 1970s. South Bristol is defined by its working waterfront—boats heading out before dawn, traps hauled in through sleet and spray, and men and women who face the Atlantic in all its moods.

The Co-op began when 12 fishermen took a leap of faith, pooling their resources to build something bigger than themselves. Their vision was simple but powerful: work together to keep the community strong and make it possible for local families to thrive on the sea.

Today, more than 35 fishermen and fisherwomen carry on that tradition. They haul lobster and shellfish in every season, often in biting winds and rough seas, so that the freshest catch makes its way directly to your table. The Co-op continues to fight to keep the cost of doing business down, ensuring that the rewards of this hard work stay in the hands of those who earn it.

Visiting the Co-op means more than buying seafood—it’s stepping into a living piece of Maine’s maritime heritage. You’ll see the boats, smell the salt air, and feel the rhythm of a community that has always depended on the sea.
